You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you, don't you? Don't you?

Our long-held belief has been confirmed by Carly herself (Simon, not Fiorina ): it is about Warren Beatty.

Well, part of it is, anyway.

For 44 years, the subject of "You're So Vain" has remained one of pop music's most enduring mysteries....

"I have confirmed that the second verse is Warren," she tells PEOPLE in an interview pegged to her much-anticipated memoir, Boys in the Trees, to be released later this month.

Does Beatty know about the seminal role he plays in the song? In keeping with its theme, "Warren thinks the whole thing is about him!" says Simon.

The mother and grandmother, who still resides in the same Martha's Vineyard home she shared with former husband James Taylor, explains that the other verses refer to two other men – and she still isn't naming names.

I thought the song was about one guy, but now it appears it's three. Didn't someone identify the subject of one verse as being about David Geffen?

By the way, pro tip for today's performers: You can leave a little mystery in the lyrics. Which of today's songs will still be discussed in 40 years?

the Conn. congressman she dated. When he lost a primary in a neighboring district to the seat he'd held for years, he went the third-party route and managed to get a repuke elected.

John McCain (You’re So Vain)

You stood up to torture as a pris’ner of war,
You showed that you were tough
Then you came home to Arizona
And politics got rough

You chose to back Bush over your friend John
And thought you would get away free

I could have screamed when you spoke up for Falwell, spoke up for Falwell, and

John McCain
You think the world can’t do without you
John McCain
You think the world can’t do without you, don’t you, don’t you?

2.
They called you a mav’rick and they called your talk straight,
But then you went to Baghdad—then you
Said it was normal wearing bullet-proof vests,
Can’t you see you’ve been had?

You give the same speech and you say it makes sense,
But it bores the hell out of me

I fell asleep, but I’ll download a copy, download a copy, and

John McCain
You think the world can’t do without you
John McCain
You think the world can’t do without you, don’t you, don’t you?

A few of our other "Campaign 2008" songs from our show "Political Idol" are there for free on the site, too. You should like "The Evolution (the Locomotion)," "That's Giuliani (That's Amore)" and "Barack the Knife." I think the "12 Debates of Christmas" is still there, too. We put a LOT of effort into the music production for comic effect. You can tell me how well we did

Found out her father was the Simon in Simon & Schuster.

I got a little bit sad when she was talking about James Taylor.

Still love her voice.
