Supergirl's flight is far from over.
CBS has ordered seven more episodes of the DC Comics adaptation, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The order brings Supergirl's freshman season to a total of 20 episodes. Although it's slightly less than the normal 22, the freshman drama debuted a month later than most other new fall offerings. Supergirl also requires more special effects than the average series.
The network's sign of confidence comes a month after Supergirl launched to a 3.1 rating among adults 18-49 and 12.9 million viewers making it the most-watched premiere of the fall season. The series also tied with NBC's Blindspot for the highest-rated debut of the fall. Supergirl is currently averaging a 2.8 rating.
The series marked a big leap for CBS as the only comic book-inspired series on the network's slate. However, CBS is hardly the first network to borrow from comic books for hit series. ABC has found success with Marvel's Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter, as has The CW with Arrow and The Flash. Meanwhile, Fox boasts Gotham.

(56,828 posts)Hope they can keep up the momentum and get renewed for season 2. Maybe we can get the rumored crossover with The Flash as well?

(37,748 posts)I didn't think I was going to enjoy the program, but I've ended up watching every episode without any real criticism or complaint about it. I'm pretty sure it's going to wind up being a guilty pleasure of mine before too long.

(41,832 posts)last nights episode at the end had me in tears, this is my favorite show of the season! I am glad I can watch it over and over at the CBS Website!

(65,078 posts)I keep forgetting to DVR it, but the trailers during the football games look pretty cool. The dialog (with an albeit limited sampling) seems snappy and the effects are fun.
Maybe this thread will make me remember to hit record.

(16,245 posts)Lousy acting, turgid writing and engaging in every single sci-fi cliche out there.
I mean, I get that people are desperate for a female super hero, but they can certainly do better than this. I like Agent Carter (okay she herself is not a superhero, but exists in that somewhat confusing universe). Smart dialog, good acting, even if the stories were sometimes kind of stupid.
But I suppose you can't expect superhero shows or movies to be good, exactly, since the whole genre is fundamentally stupid.
But this show is one of the worst I have ever seen in any genre.

(22,340 posts)I don't think I'm being contrary for the sake of being contrary.
Now, I admit I'm more of a Marvel person and that may be in play here, but the series just doesn't seem that good. The characters are flat, the development of a story line is kind of forced, and the ability to make a strong female character seems to be lost.
Just because people don't like what others like doesn't mean they are intentionally being jackholes.

(41,832 posts)of the show, and not liking it is fine, but totally trashing my post just to trash it, seems a bit vindictive to me. There is always someone who wants to spit in YOUR SOUP because they don't like what you say or do. Its the one reason I been staying out of General Discussion: Primaries because some people seem to want to put their foot in the face of those who they disagree with.

(56,828 posts)but, i do think it could be better - the villains have been bland "villains of the week" so far, and I think the pacing could be better. I'm also not a huge fan of love triangles - you have the two guys and Kara, and you also have the two women and James. That said, it's only 1/3 of a season into season 1, so it has time to grow and improve. I love Melissa Benoist, and Cat Grant has grown on me from just the cardboard cutout of Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada.
That said, I'm in my late 40s and just love that we have comic book shows all over TV and dominating the box office, so I try to watch as much as I can. I've been mostly a Marvel fan myself over the years, starting with Spider-Man, but watched the first 3 seasons of Arrow recently and enjoyed them. (Until Frank Miller's Dark Knight series came out in the mid 80s, I always thought of DC as "kiddie" comics, but I liked a lot of the DC stuff from then until the mid 90s when I stopped collecting)
