(1,819 posts)I'm not the guilty party. But it drives me nuts. I've tried leaving a copy of speakerphone etiquette on various desks, to no avail. My co-workers don't think it's rude.

(15,223 posts)Used to work in the main office of a company owned by one of the biggest Republican shills in Texas. The brother of the owner was constantly blabbering on the phone loud as could - to the point that it was hard for any of us cubicle rats to concentrate.
I mentioned this to my supervisor and she said she couldn't do anything.
I was reasonably on speaking terms with the brother. He wasn't quite the jerk that his rich sibling is. One day, he was ordering some fishing equipment and gave his credit card information over the speaker phone. When he got off the phone, I walked into his office and read back his credit card number to him, then handed him the paper on which I'd written the number.
THAT took care of him. He closed his door from then on!
Morale of the story - if the person is a Republican, you have to somehow relate your request to money!

(8,492 posts)I have a hard time hearing some vocal tones. I have a customer that works in a public office that ALWAYS calls me on speakerphone. I say "I'm sorry, could you repeat that" about 5 times per conversation. She eventually lets out this heavy sigh and takes me off.
Edit: Forgot to mention I've been working with her for 10 years. You'd think she'd get it by now.
