I thought I was just petting the cat and she starts to whine, I turned and just realized I was zapping her with static electricity. Damn this dry air!
She was not amused...

(16,200 posts)She's my only fur baby. I was surprised about the static because it seemed drier than this most of last winter.

(115,755 posts)She doesn't look pleased, though; she's got that slitty-eyed annoyed kitteh look. Ever pet the cat in the dark? You can see lots of little sparks popping off in their fur. Just don't touch their nose (and definitely don't tutch the but).

I was more careful after that. Poor kitty.

(11,770 posts)when we reached out to pet him because of the constant shocks. We cranked up the humidifier on the furnace, added a portable to the main level where the majority of carpeting is located and I occasionally sprayed a little Downy on the wall to wall. All those steps helped, but it took him a while to get over the trauma. This year, we were pro active and so far so good. Very few shocks and the Meezer is his usual affectionate self-- vocalizing for attention/interaction, rubbing against us and flopping for belly rubs.

(14,627 posts)Yes, when I lived in Virginia, the northernmost point ever in my life, my cats used to get zapped in the winter.
We're in New Orleans now, with temperatures usually in the 80's and humidity in the 90', so now, not so much!
