I remember during Xmas vacation, I think it was '64, it was very warm
in lower SC. So warm we were wearing shorts.
Anyone remember the same Xmas in the same general (or other!) region?

(17,216 posts)One year, there was snow so deep, we built tunnels and had a Great Escape. Might well have been '64, since the movie came out in '63.

(23,364 posts)We had a helluva ice storm, couldn't drive, pine trees bent over. Had to hike to a New Year party.

(27,247 posts)I got a stuffed animal and a mechanical ladybug that ran on batteries.
And watched Mr. McGoo's Christmas Carol, and was totally spooked by the 3rd ghost.
And started developing an interest in postage stamps.

(115,837 posts)It warmed up only to 12 F, low of 1 F. On Christmas in 1965 it was a little warmer; up to 32, with a low of 19. My recollection of Christmases throughout the 60s and 70s is that it was always cold, sometimes below zero. The coldest weather seemed to be right after Christmas and into January.

We succeeded.
Don't remember much about the weather, frankly.

(12,676 posts)Christmas morning, with a pipe-cleaner and cotton ball ornament to put on their big fir tree. We had driven down from Berkley to Santa Monica the night before, my brother and I spent half the trip in the back of the old station wagon (back seat folded down) on the way down sleeping on blankets next to the presents we were bringing down. My right arm was still in a cast, as three months earlier, I had run it through a washing-machine wringer and it had broken bones and nearly tore my index finger off when I was trying to "help" with the laundry and my dad wasn't paying attention because was getting ready to take the load he had just finished in the basket to put out to dry.
I remember Christmas afternoon at my aunt and uncle in San Gabriel in their new house, with their brand new white tree that was covered with tinsel, glass ball and bell ornaments and a color wheel that made everything turn all sorts of colors, and running around the yards with neighbor kids I didn't know.
It was warm, and I got carsick on the way back.
