(14,400 posts)they do surprisingly well. My MIL has a similarly sized car with snow tires, it handled as well as anything I've driven.
The only thing you'll need to worry about is clearance, the Versa is a very low car so don't try going over drifts and stick to plowed roads.

(63,912 posts)the city plows the streets around my neighborhood well...the mayor lives only a few blocks away, so...
I'm going to be in for the duration. Stocking up on what we'll need foodwise (and I might make a pot of chili, if hubby is good). Supermarket will be a madhouse Saturday am so I am going for last minute stuff tomorrow morning. and, yes, pick up wine...I wanna be off the road by noon Saturdy, earlier if it looks like the storm is coming early...3/4 tank of gas...

(33,528 posts)I was with my boss at the time, who refused to stop, but slept while I drove.
He was a real ass. He insisted on going on the trip. When we got there, all the people we were planning to see had gone home. They, if not he, realized that traveling on ice and snow in North Carolina is a very, very, very, very bad idea.
On the ice in North Carolina, where no one knows how to drive on ice, the Versa did better than most cars. The cars most often stuck, oddly enough were BMW's. The Versa did not get stuck, although it did spin the wheels a few times.
They don't have very many snow plows in North Carolina, and the freeway was quite bad, jackknifed trucks, that sort of thing. The car fish tailed quite a bit, but being light, and riding on top of the snow and ice, it was quite easy to handle and control, but I needed to maintain intense concentration for many hours.
The drive, normally about 8 to 10 hours, took over 24. I was happily surprised with the car. It kept going and didn't get stuck. I refused to let my boss drive on the one or two occasions he offered. He's a worse driver wide awake than I am half asleep.
If you're asking, the experience made me very, very, very, very serious about getting a new job, which I did, with a rather hefty raise in pay as well as higher job satisfaction. In that sense, my experience with the Versa was positive.
