(17,600 posts)I still turn it up.
I am also guilty of liking a couple Spandau Ballet songs. And changing the channel when almost anything by the Rolling Stones comes on. Meanwhile my current go-to on my MP3 player is The Offspring. Figure that one out.

(27,820 posts)The Stones are my favorite band (still in existence) with the Bryan Adams band coming in second.
However, I think I read somewhere that the Stones will be making their last tour this year.

(37,573 posts)I see it is from the late 1990s. There was a time in the late 1990s when I ordered two new CDs. The latest by Michael W. Smith and also by Bryan Adams. I was surprised when both CDs kinda sucked. Pretty sure I had liked everything else those guys had done for over a decade, but I was giving two thumbs down, and was kinda done listening to their new stuff. If I had a choice I was kinda done listening to ANY new stuff by anybody.

(66,397 posts)His music isn't genius, but it's listenable and enjoyable. He's a thoroughly decent guy IRL, unlike Justin Bieber. Adams' first album was released when he was about 20; not too much older than Bieber, so the Bieb's douchey behavior has less to do with youth, and more to do with being a douchebag. Adams has campaigned all over the world for human rights.
Favorite songs: Not the radio hits, oddly. I like "Do I Have To Say The Words?" from Waking Up The Neighbors, and "Another Day" from Into The Fire.

(27,820 posts)I think he also has donated all profits from his photography work to charity as well, and he has done many concerts for various charities too.
I don't get the hate either.
Bieber is a talentless douchebag.

(37,573 posts)but, unlike Bieber, he did NOT become a big star, not as big as Bieber at any age. Adams to Bieber is like Bay City Rollers to the Beatles. I think Adam's first big hit was Heaven. As I remember Casey Kasem telling it, Heaven was released twice, and Adams promoted it like crazy. Only the second time did it become a fairly big hit. It went to #1. Run to You and Cuts like a knife were top 20s.
Bieber is 21 now, he became a big star five years ago, when he was 16, was making hit singles from the time he was 14.

(66,397 posts)Bryan Adams appealed to the teenage rocker who wasn't quite ready for metal, and to young adults.
Justin Bieber's audience is screamy girl teeny-boppers.
Two vastly different audiences, but each is huge in his niche.

(37,573 posts)Adams is worth $65 million at age 57.
How much was Adams worth at age 17? or even at age 25? Adams did not experience near the fame and fortune that Bieber did at a young age, and does not have near the fortune even now. More than I expected though. He may be a good investor or bigger than I thought.

(66,397 posts)It was over the relative musical merit of each, and whether Canada had anything to apologize for.
If I were Canada, I'd be proud of Adams, and hiding under a rock out of shame over Bieber.

(37,573 posts)but in Calvinball you get to move the goalposts.
Actually, my argument was about your statement that Adams had the same career path as Bieber. You said that Adams started at a young age, so Bieber's youth was no excuse.
I am only saying that Bieber got more famous at a younger age than Adams ever did.
As for Bieber, well if he is the worst example of a nation, then the nation is doing pretty good I would say. It's not like he's a mass murderer. As far as his music, well I listened to some of his hits on the YT. Not gonna run out and buy a CD, but not completely repulsive either. In fact, I rather like this one

(9,527 posts)I have a couple of albums, but based on itunes count, my favorites seem to be House Arrest and There Will Never Be Another Tonight.
But before I call myself a fan of somebody, I need to have at least several albums.

I don't even know where the CD is today; but I've played the "Live From Lisbon" DVD at least 25 times..
.He sure knows how to put on a live show.
He & his band still tour regularly, and he's no youngster anymore.

(27,820 posts)is good.
(I always smile looking at "Your Sunday LOLCats"
Did you know that every time you smile, the brain sends signals for Endorphins to be produced by the central nervous system & the pituitary gland that are a natural "sedative"
(as opposed to adrenalin, which makes you "wide awake" like coffee)
Anyhow, smiling is good for you.
Laughter is even better for you..
.Google "Anatomy of an Illness" by Norman Cousins
He had a very painful, un-treatable illness, and he found that one "belly-laugh" equaled about 10 minutes of pain relief.....It's a great book, and fun to read as well.
(I think Norman Cousins was the editor of Look Magazine, but I could be wrong about that)
