Gossip: SISKEL & EBERT argued about *everything*. Non-stop. Plus TYSON's g'bye to Rosie

Although the bystander says she was "in shock" with Gene & Roger, seems like it would have been sort of fun to be there.

Critics as best ‘frenemies’

Real-life odd couple Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel were so competitive, it could take the dueling critics six hours to tape a half-hour episode of their seminal TV show, “At the Movies,” according to a new e-book by Josh Schollmeyer. In “Enemies: A Love Story,” Mary Kellogg, a former programming and production exec at Buena Vista Television, recalls: “They would literally argue about everything. From the lineup of movies to the graphics to who would talk first. At the beginning, I was sort of in shock. I thought, ‘They don’t do anything but argue! It’s exhausting.’ ” “They would argue incessantly,” agrees exec producer Joe Antelo, while another colleague calls the critics “the original frenemies.” At Siskel’s 1999 funeral, Ebert eulogized his nemesis: “Gene always liked to end with the same final question: ‘What do you know for sure?’ OK, Gene, what do I know for sure about you? You were one of the smartest, funniest, quickest men I have ever known, and one of the best reporters.”

Mike Tyson changed his flight to stay in Chicago to attend Rosie O’Donnell’s 50th birthday party at hot spot Studio Paris. We’re told Tyson on Monday taped an episode of O’Donnell’s talk show (canceled by OWN three days earlier) and decided to stay in town to attend O’Donnell’s bash. Tyson, his wife, Kiki, and their daughter, Milan, wheeled out a 3-foot cake and sang “Happy Birthday” to the comic, who had her fiancée, Michelle Rounds, by her side. O’Donnell, who seemed festive despite her show being canned, played drums with ’80s cover band Sixteen Candles. The whole thing was shown on Rosie’s show Wednesday, one of her last on OWN.
