Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsHow to rid prints off of a clear glass mug?
The pic is similar, exact shape doesn't matter. I've had the couple of the mugs for about 5 years, and I rotate them daily. This must be a relatively "modern" type of glass ("tempered"?), because I dropped one on a concrete floor once and it bounced interminably without a chip or crack and I microwave it daily. I've had some older type of glass explode in a microwave before, not this. It's my fave, exclusively so. So about a month ago I noticed for the first time that it kept a print on it after washing, specifically my lip print ----- GROSS!1 I mean, it's not pronounced, can only be seen if you are actively *looking* for it and hold it to the light at a certain angle. But it would be *horrible* if anybody else saw it!1 Since then I've gone all hyper about it, washing it extra specifically with hotter water and anti-bacterial soap, and extra stroking on the lip. But this "shadow" print will not be rid!1
What's the solution -- vinegar? Alternate question: Should I be screened for some disorder, including my behavior in Lounge?!1

just keep it a wee distance from your other glasses and make it all yours.
or...see if Windex will help.
If not, Resolve surely will. I use Resolve for all sorts of stubborn stains.

(53,339 posts)If not, I'd try soaking in a bleach/water solution. That always works to remove stains from coffee mugs. But read and follow the directions on the bleach, because you want to use a very diluted solution.

(70,744 posts)I'll try your suggestions -- Windex, Resolve, anything/that's what I'm here for. Thanks.
But please "resolve" my "Resolve" clarification!1 Haha? No, seriesly!1 What kind of Resolve?

(60,010 posts)It has been around for ages, sells as a carpet stain remover.
You should be able to find it somewhere in the bathroom/kitchen cleaners area of the store.
Also works great on some kitchen/bathroom floor stains ( would not use it on marble).
I've used it to remove cat puke stains from a cotton comforter.
The thing with dishwashers, I have noticed is if they do not remove the stain, the drying process seems to bake them in.

(70,744 posts)Never thought of it in terms of glass. Also, "stain" doesn't match my mental image of this regarding glass. This is like a cloudiness in the glass in the shape of what a blurred lip print is, certainly not like a lipstick design. See post below, NOT "greasy" and NOT feel-able on the surface like something encrusted or able to be scraped.
Well, so far I've got a repetoire to try: Bleach, Resolve, Windex, Goo Gone, vinegar, citra-solve, hand sanitizer/alcohol, a nuke... And an OCD test for myself!1

(60,010 posts)I am not feeling positive about a fix.
Have had similar problems with dishwasher doing that.
Is what you have actually all glass?
You mentioned it dropped but did not break or crack.
does it make that clear "ping" sound of glass when you tap it lightly with a spoon? or is it a duller sound?
There is a glass/plastic combo that looks and feels like glass but is not all glass.
Might explain how the that "cloudiness" got set into the rim.
UTUSN
(70,744 posts)It doesn't "ping" because it's thick (glass?). It sort of "clanks". This is NOT a wine glass, is not thin so as to "ping". But it isn't a "DULL" sound. It is a clear sound, like thick glass, a clear clank.
The dropping incident was a one time thing back when I first got the two mugs about 5 years ago. I mentioned it to suggest this was a perhaps more technologically newer kind of glass than the old kind of glass that exploded after heating in a microwave. Does "tempered" mean like Pyrex? It might be something like Pyrex?
This looks and feels like glass, so if there is any plastic in it, that's incredible.

(1,837 posts)It's largely alcohol and very caustic, and deals well with greasy stains.

(70,744 posts)Not something on the surface like to be scrapeable, and not greasy. It's like a ghost shade/shadow almost inside the glass

(70,744 posts)would be random, no? In random places on the item. And there are two mugs, identical products, which I rotate & microwave daily.
So both mugs have the same cloudy, blurry lip print, each in exactly the same spot just below the rim of each mug, exactly where right-handed me would lift the mug to put to my mouth to drink. Each "print" is the blurry bottom lip of my lips, in the exact place where I drink from.
So. I use one of the two mugs per day, a few times per day -- first for a full mug of water for the morning meds; next for a half mug of instant, microwaved coffee; then a couple or three times later in the day for full mugs of instant cold tea. So we can start with my supposedly corrosive saliva, mixed with three different temperatures of liquid per day (room temp; very hot; cold).
Lounge knows more about me than anybody I know in person!1
