The challenge is to make a good sized donation, or to make a small donation and pour a bucket of icewater over yourself, post a video and challenge someone else to do so also, to raise awareness for ALS (Lou Gherig's Disease).

The family of autoimmune neuromuscular diseases that are colloquially known as "The Acronym Diseases" are affected by temperature. The 'sub-families' of them are; in increasing order of severity/decreasing order of treatability: MG (Myasthenia Gravis), MD (Muscular Dystrophy), MS (Multiple Sclerosis), and ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Heat and cold will either make the symptoms worse or markedly lessen them for a short period of time.

You really don't need to do something like dumping a bucket of icewater over yourself to support the research. You don't need to post a video to Youtube. You can speak to people with knowledge and passion, saving the ice for a good Scotch, if you wish.

My angle on this? I have MG. It's nicely under control, some of the medication side effects are a bit of a problem, but you wouldn't know anything is wrong by looking at me. I'm lucky. I have good insurance, I had a knowledgeable Doctor that saw the symptoms, had a suspicion, and referred me to appropriate specialists. As it was, I could have died a few times before everything was straightened out. But I'm OK now, relatively. My situation is that I'm lucky enough to be under control.

If you CAN do something now, then go ahead. Otherwise, file the knowledge away in hopes that you may be able to in the future.
