Whoa, Kelly RIPA missing this 1st morning after Michael's departure announcement!1

Well, for some of us shuttered, it's a little big deal. Kelly is just so "it" in the 2nd tier of stellar (no Doris DAY of my dad's fandom), but really the sharpest tack in our toolbox. So it was a shock about Michael's departure yesterday, then TMZ saying she was not told until after yesterday's show when the announcement was made and she didn't take it well, with the possibility that the show will be dumped in favor of a third hour of GMA to fix that slide.

So actually, I *did* spend some minutes last night making a note to watch the interaction this morning. After all, I've got this history: The sort of awkward dumping of Regis; the long co-host auditioning; the sort of surprise of Michael; the early co-hosting when her welcoming was almost creepy; then the smoothing out into full comfort zone. But there was a tinge of *sad* with the gossip that she and Regis don't see each other, although she occasionally mentions him on the show. Anyway, she's just nifty.

So, the *SHOCK* this morning was not Michael's leaving but Kelly's AWOL!1 Then Michael tackled his "news" bouncily and thanking fans and "this family" withOUT naming Kelly!1 Wow.

Kelly Ripa MIA on Live in Wake of Michael Strahan's Surprise Exit News

It seems reports that Kelly Ripa was blindsided by co-host Michael Strahan’s departure news were not greatly exaggerated.
On Wednesday’s Live With Kelly and Michael, the show’s first telecast since Tuesday’s announcement that Strahan was transitioning to a full-time gig on Good Morning America, Ripa was a surprise no-show. As a result, Strahan was forced to awkwardly address his looming exit opposite guest co-host Ana Gasteyer.

“I’m leaving this show and I’m going over to GMA full time, which is going to happen in September,” he said. “I do want to say to all of our viewers out there and to everybody who has watched this show over the last four years… thank you, guys. I can’t ask for better fans… and you guys have been absolutely amazing. On top of that I’ve worked with an incredible staff here and I’m always available to guest co-host if I get a call because i consider myself a part of this family forever.”

UPDATE: At the very end of Wednesday’s Live, Strahan addressed the elephant in the room: “I really want to thank of course Kelly Ripa because Kelly welcomed me here and I’ve learned so much from her. She’s been an amazing influence on me and it has truly changed my life to be here with her. I know that the show will continue to be strong and great because of Kelly and Michael Gelman and the staff here. Everybody is so talented and this show has not been around for over 30 years by mistake… Kelly, I thank you and I love you and everyone else here at Live.”

According to reports, Ripa learned of Strahan’s departure shortly after Tuesday’s show wrapped at 10 am. The news broke an hour later.

Strahan, who is also set to host ABC’s upcoming primetime $100,000 Pyramid reboot, will appear on GMA tomorrow to discuss his new role with the morning show.

TVLine has reached out to ABC for a comment on Ripa’s absence. In the meantime, watch Strahan’s (Ripa-less) announcement below.

PROBST, Anderson COOPER, Andy COHEN, Neil Patrick HARRIS. As for other daytime backround noise, in the past year I warmed up to CBS - both The Talk and the morning show with Charlie ROSE, Gail, and the ex-reporter married to a Neo-Con. This ties in to the slide of GMA, where the unrelenting CHEERINESS has gotten on my nerves. So ABC is cannibalizing Regis's show in favor of propping up GMA.

I see the show occasionally when I am home from work and I thought they made a good team. But then I have seen Strahan on other things and wondered how in the hell he could manage such a schedule.

They both seemed very likable to me. I hope there is no lasting animosity.

"It's not 'Show Friends.' It's 'Show Business'"

It does seem disrespectful; however I suspect his agent didn't want to give Ripa's camp time to try to derail the deal.

They put a lot of people through auditions to come up with that pairing when Regis Philbin left, and it's been successful. She'll have to put on a cordial face and wish him well in public, even if she has nothing kind to say in private.

Neil Patrick Harris was their first choice last time, but IIRC he couldn't do it because he was still committed to HIMYM. Now that it's done, there is little that prevents him from taking that spot. My guess is that he'll have it as long as he wants it, and he will break in Kelly's replacement some day.

I remember that they also auditioned Anderson Cooper last time, and also Mike Greenberg from ESPN's "Mike & Mike" show (personally, I think Mike Golic would be a much better fit). I think Dan Patrick may have also been in the mix; however he's got the inside track on being Alex Trebek's successor on Jeopardy!. I doubt he'd be interested.

strikes me as a real upbeat positive guy and would fit in perfect at GMA. So today I read somewhere that he wanted to do more
stories the kind of stories that don't get covered on the Ripa show. I also read that he got tired of going to work with Ripa because in the last year she had become very moody and it was like walking on eggshells. Dunno if any of it is true but you can hardly expect an ambitious guy like Strahan to stick with a mid-morning show.

If I were her, I would search for a new morning show negotiation and keep it secret.
