The Duggars Get Terrible News on '19 Kids & Counting' [Video]

For your entertainment pleasure:

Thanks to TLC's "19 Kids & Counting," we've shared many happy moments with the ever-growing Duggar family. But on last night's spring finale, we were witness to an unspeakably tragic moment as well, as parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar received devastating news. Michelle went to the doctor to get an ultrasound for what would be her 20th child -- and learned that the baby had no heartbeat.

but are they going to cover her D&C (therapeutic abortion?) Sorry, but I think it is a natural question, given their rather extreme views.

As much as I find it difficult to fathom (and have some real issues with their decision to have) so many children, I respect that they have suffered a terrible loss and I extend my sympathy.

And no abortions - still have to carry it to term.

I mean that's what our country is coming to if we allow these crazy GOP laws to pass.

However..

My deepest sympathies to the Duggar family, that can't be easy what she is going thru.

that it had a high probability of happening.

Eventually, her body will get to the point that it's not able to support it, one way or another, not supporting the kid or not supporting her.

And then those 19 kids will be without a mother.

If they are so desperate for more kids why not adopt. That would show that their love of large families isn't just for blood related only.

Apparently Michelle Duggar is somewhere in her mid 40s?

Well, eggs are finite. They aren't replenished from an endless supply. We're born with all we'll ever have...and hers are getting older.

I'm having a real hard time feeling anything more than "Oh well" over this. Especially seeing how many couples I've known personally who couldn't even have one child, never mind 19 of them.

And I'm not talking about the strict literature definition.

As the doctor told them, this is probably expected.

How does this meet the definition of tragic. Her doctor told her it would happen at some point, i.e. it is expected.

I'm not delighting in what is surely pain for her. I just don't give a shit about them. Perhaps that's crass, but they have pushed their identity into the spotlight and they are not people I care about.

But from a mother to a mother, I'm sorry for what she's been through losing this child that they wanted.

I just don't care. I haven't had any idea during the run of the show why I should care. My wife watches the show and it blows me away whenever I catch any of it that anyone would give two shits about these people.

I don't delight in what happened to them.

I almost said I have no emotion, but that's not true. In some ways, I'm a bit disgusted that people who already have 19 kids are capitalizing on this "tragedy" while countless couples out there can't even have one child and are so anxious to have a child that they would do just about anything to have one, even going so far as to adopt one and love it as their own.

One young couple I knew years ago (worked with the husband) built a gorgeous home and were trying unsuccessfully to have biological children to fill it. They were on the verge of mortgaging/selling their brand new home to adopt a child if the fertility treatments continued to be unsuccessful. I left the company and never did find out what they did.

The Duggars don't register on my pity-meter...

Yes, i know it's the "Gossip", but I've heard Jim Bob echo this same sentiment on their show.

They believe that overpopulation is a myth. *I* do not.

Certainly, I can understand that they would grieve the loss of the pregnancy, but IMHO, I think some of their public grief was to heighten ratings for the show. I know that I've never seen an episode of their show hyped MORE on TLC than this particular episode, so you just gotta ask...

Not to minimize the Duggar's pain, but they have too many goddamn children

I may not be popular in saying this, but after 3 kids, you should start losing deductions on your taxes. After 5, you should start paying tax penalties.
