I once took a litter of stray kittens to the Humane Society. They were not cute kittens at all, they were just downright homely. I told the woman who checked them in that I was worried that they might not find homes for them since they weren't very pretty. She told me not to worry, the ugly ones went first. She said people would come in looking for a pet and after cooing over the cuties, they would spot another animal who wasn't so pretty and say things like, "oh, the poor thing is so ugly that no one else will want it. Let's take that one."

I never met an ugly cat. Ever. Well, the hairless ones are not my cup of tea.

I do like the empathy of the adopt a homely cat people.

Also, the flower fascinator and string of pearls are whimsical but really just make Matty look like my Great-Auntie. The resemblance isn't flattering to either of them.
