But I guess they must do it to tear themselves away from our apron strings.

on their own and procreate the next generation. And it helps the parents be more ready (relieved?) to let them go when the time comes. I really believe it is a hard-wired behavior that came down to us through natural selection. Adolescents who were extremely docile and dependent by nature would have been less likely to leave home and therefore didn't reproduce that trait.

I love the fact that the little girl on Dad's head, and the boy all the way to the right, have exactly the same smiles now as they did when they were babies.
