The annual " I hate fireworks thread"

Yes, call me a wet blanket I don't care!

I was up until 3:00 am last with my scared dogs because some idiot down the street decided that he loves America so much he's gonna shoot off loud banging shit all night! GRRRR!

Shooting fireworks in our city limits is against the law.

Go to a firework display! Have fun.. just stop doing it in my hood!

End of RANT!

We have 4 cats, all around 7 years old. We were planning on getting only one, but she was a rescued stray who was pregnant. She had a litter of five, we gave two away but kept them in the family.

This is Penny. Shes the mother and queen of the house.

This is Laisy the sister "kitten".

Marbles

The youngest brother is a slick, badass black cat named Blackey, but I can't find a picture right now.

when the kittens were dumped I had 4 already, 2 toms, 2 queens. The kittens were dumped a week before Christmas in front of my house. The ONLY girl in the litter had a compression fracture in her femoral growth plate. Then, the pain killer they gave her suppressed her immune system enough she ended up with active toxoplasmosis (they're all born carrying the parasite), so she was paralyzed for awhile (a few weeks), while the protozoa killing medicine was working on her. She's fine now. Anyway, all of 'em are fixed.

But the local yahoos set off huge explosives that rattle the windows. Only one of my dogs is terrified. We put her in her crate with some blankies. Safest place for her because she tries to hide behind furniture and then gets stuck.

It wouldn't be so bad if it was just one night, but they set them off all weekend.

People in my neighborhood don't care we're within the city limits either. Last year they were shooting off really big ones. They're pretty, but it's ridiculous how much was going off right around me.

drunkenly light a large sky rocket, drop it, then run only after the shower of the igniting rocket makes them think that is necessary. Then the rocket flies up the street and explodes in front of someone's driveway.

But, the guy snowplowed the street when we had hip-deep snow, so there is a give and take.

Mon Jul 4, 2016, 10:02 PM
Jul 2016

…is how people who were in actual war zones—soldiers and immigrants—get through the noises and lights of tonight.

It always seems hypocritical to me that we are still dropping bombs via (drone) on people in various countries and yet enjoying these "safe" bombs at home with different degrees of patriotic BBQing and drinking.

I can't quite take the massive cultural denial it all represents. And I do think about all the folks who have PTSD.

It really did sound like a war zone, not that I have ever lived in one, but it was very loud and the explosions went on for quite some time. I have both a cat and a dog and my dog didn't seem all that disturbed, but my cat was really scared. But then I rescued him two years ago as a tiny kitten from a grocery store parking lot where they were doing major construction.

I had a 120 lb and a 75 lb dog vying for my lap, panting, etc. I live pretty center point to three of the big displays in my area, so the noise comes at us from all directions.

So far no one in my neighborhood has set any off, thank god.

We have an older dog we got through rescue who is terrified of thunderstorms, so you can imagine how she is with fireworks. They were going on for 8 hours yesterday.

And I saw a thing (I think it was on Huffington) about vets getting their PTSD triggered by unexpected fireworks.

And I wonder how many people setting off the fireworks really thing they are being patriotic and how many are just using the 4th as an excuse to make boom-boom bang-bang.

I actually had to dive out of the way because a giant spark was falling towards me. It landed on the chair I was sitting on about 1 second after I dropped to the ground. It was pretty cool. The ones I was at tonight were in the suburbs of San Antonio. You would think the one thing that Texas would get right would be fireworks but you would be dead wrong.

I was playing on my phone for the first 20 minutes until I looked up and realized they were already well underway. It was far enough away that I didn't hear one boom. The park we went to was on the city's website as a good location. God, texas really blows. I'm hoping I only stuck here for about 8 more months.

cops been busy chasing fireworks complaints, they get sick of repeating "we can't do a thing, its legal now" While I've been listening one local got his foot blown off by a mortar & one had all his fingers blown off with partial amputation, and that is just during the little time spent listening in a low population county/.
