More than 40 officers converged Saturday on the Hardy Township field west of Millersburg off of Rt. 39 after concerned parents notified the Holmes County sheriffs office of a large party expected to attract over 1,000 Amish from Ohio and neighboring states.
Investigators say 73 people, including 35 juveniles, were taken into custody and charged with underage consumption of alcohol....
The Amish are a Christian sect whose members live a simple lifestyle and shun modern conveniences.
Party like it's 1599!

(95,337 posts)There's a great documentary out there about Rumspringa. Many time these parties will occur in someone's barn. Parents overlook it because it is Rumspringa and something that probably they had done in their youth. Better that the kids party local in one of their barns were it's mostly Amish kids than for them to go elsewhere. Plus for most Amish communities, place like Lancaster PA is considered 'Big City'.

BTW my comments were just from the documentary, I've lived in that area for years.
