What unique games do you play with your pet(s) that they really enjoy?

Esther, my cat, LOVES playing the door game. I'll close, but not latch, my bedroom door. She'll come over, get up on her hind legs and use her full body to push the door wide open. Then she'll stop at the doorway before moving back 3 feet and wait for me to close the door again and we repeat the process. We can keep this going for 10 minutes for more.

out of when I hide behind furniture or around a corner and she tries to sneak up on me but I jump out and "scare" her.

She races away, spins around, and then comes back for more.

Nikki likes to bring honeysuckle vines into the house for me to throw out. Used to be rocks, but she gave up on those.

The game they both enjoy at the same time is bubbles...

I like the music you put to the video, sort of like the kinetic energy of the Keystone Cops.

I saw the video of them with the chipmunk too

Thank you!

We got them at 10 months old and I was convinced we would not survive their energy and antics

They will pick out a rattley mousey from their stock of toys, jump up and drop it in your lap, then jump down and wait for you to throw it.

They then tear after it, pounce on it, and run back to repeat as necessary.

If one of them gets to it before the other too many times, they will dig out another mousey so that both of them get one to chase.

She did not know any of the normal kitty games which lead me to believe that maybe she never had a home.

The little monster didn't even know at first what to do with the feather at the end of the string.

Well, I introduced her to the game "attack the object moving under the covers" game which she has taken to a whole new level.
Anytime I move a foot, hand or whatever in my sleep immediately gets pounced on.

It really wakes you up when you feel sharp teeth sinking into your ankle. It is almost like she is trying to make up
for lost time.

I love her to pieces though.

Now if I can just stop her from trying to bat my dinner out of my hand. I think that is her game..."whatever hits the floor is hers"!

4. Tug of war with a dog we used to have, and chasing BB's
Tue Apr 3, 2012, 01:57 PM
Apr 2012

An 80 lb English Setter mix, he loved to play tug of war with me using an old towel. He was smart: He'd vary his tugging effort and direction until he sensed I was at the edge of my balance, and then using his entire body, he'd suddenly yank so hard and sudden I'd fall to the ground before I could release my grip. I guess he really liked that. How he never ripped his teeth clear out of his gums I'll never know; then again, we're talking about a dog who literally like to chew on big rocks!

The other thing he loved was when we were behind the house or in the woods with our BB guns plinking, he'd pause in a leaned forward "get ready" position, and try to chase/fetch the BB as it ripped through the leaves and such. I didn't know if he could actually see it, or did it just by sound. He loved to do that. He'd also try to fetch firecrackers when we lit and threw them and we mad extra sure to wait for the fuse to burn slightly so it would blow up before he could get to it. He was just nuts.

He died of stomach cancer at only 10 years old, and it hit us all very hard.

6. Comb under the bathroom door.

My cats hate it when I go to the bathroom and close the door on them. I discovered long ago that if I took a rattail comb and slid part of it under the door, the cats would go after it. I slide it around, bring it in, put it back out, etc. This works only if your toilet is close to your door.

but I use the belt of my bathrobe. My bathroom door has a fairly wide gap at the bottom, just wide enough for a cat arm to slide under. As a result, the bottom edge of the door is all gouged up with claw marks.

9. Chase up the stairs
Tue Apr 3, 2012, 06:39 PM
Apr 2012

My kitty, Nikki, was never one to play until we lost Molly, her companion. Now Nikki will give the signal, scratch the floor grate and up the stairs we go. I chase her across the bedroom, around the bed, back down the stairs, across the dining and living room and under the end table of the couch. She then pauses about 5 seconds and jumps onto the couch and into her "house", couch cushions stacked "L" shape with a blanket on top. She's 16. My husband calls us the 2 crazy old ladies.

Seems like a dopey game, but it really entertains them. They came up with it themselves. LOL

Two of them love to play tug. One won't tug at all, but she loves to retrieve a ball.

All three of them love "crazy ball". It's a bouncy ball on a long piece of elastic that I got at the dollar store. They go bonkers trying to catch it.

each other, rub and pet each other. She get her claws going in the 'making butter' type way. I rub her stomach. She collapses with great panache and rolls on her back. I have to do this even if I have been outside the apartment for a short time. If I forget she'll try and lure me in that direction.

and various other tubby prey.

The bathtub squid is a surgical glove filled with water and tied off like a water balloon. Then I toss it in a tubby filled with water for the pooch to hunt. After he kills the squid he usually runs around the house and finds more "prey" to throw in the tubby to hunt for. His general favorite items of prey seem to be my underpants (yes, he knows how to open the undergarment drawer all by himself, and yes, I wish he didn't and would just use the ones in the laundry pile).

We make a great wet mess of pretty much the whole house hunting things in the tubby, but he can entertain himself for ages with or without me doing this, and he has such fun, so what the hell.

I'll turn off all the lights and he goes ape shit over the spot of light created by a flashlight. He chases it around, barks at it, scratches at the floor when he finally 'catches' it.

She tears around like a maniac and when she runs up to me, I make a big stomp at her, and she'll jump back. I'll stomp some more and she'll jump back and start tearing around. She loves it. Gotta play it for a good twenty minutes when I get home every night.

When we're waking up, Penny stretches herself as long as possible while lying on her tummy.
I say, "Oh my gosh, what a LONG dog!"
She stretches even more.
"How did you get so long?"
I run my hand from her front paws to the tip of her tale, saying
"OMG, she's getting longer and longer. What a monster! How am I going to FEED you? You're a long, loooong dog"
She grins and wriggles like crazy.

to play the RAWR! game. He'll bring me one of his "babies" (stuffed animals -- he has DOZENS of them), hand it to me & then stretch across my lap. This is the signal for me to "attack" him with the baby while RAWR'ing. He gets SOOOO excited -- tail wagging like mad, grinning from ear to ear -- and then lunges for the baby while RAWR'ing back. We do this for a bit, and then it's time for me to throw the baby so he can attack & kill it on the floor.

My other boy -- Baja (black lab) likes to sing songs. He will jump up on the couch next to me and lay his head on my shoulder & start singing. He gets super frustrated if I won't sing back (starts pawing at my arms and yipping until I do). He seems to particularly enjoy Alouette. He's not much for actual "games", though. He will catch a ball if I toss one to him (and then drops it on the floor & looks at me like "Dude, why did you just throw a ball at my face?!?!?!&quot
