A block from my house is an intersection where my street tees with the main street and a parallel kind of frontage street. The frontage street has to yield to my street. So as I'm making a left hand turn off the main street on to my street, this student driver comes zooming up the frontage street and blows right through the intersection. I slammed on the brakes just in time and avoided a collision. The frontage street continues on and loops around to join the cross street at the other end of the block my house is on, and by the time I had parked and got out of the car, the student driver and her instructor came down the back street and pulled up to the house.
It was my daughter. I asked the instructor if she failed. She said no, just that my daughter needs to pay more attention to yield signs. My daughter is a varsity Soccer and Lacrosse player, yield is not in her vocabulary.
Oh man, I'm in trouble.
Actually she's a great driver, she just blew that one. THAT would have been a great call to have to make to the insurance agent.

It's your daughter who is!
Yikes! I'm glad there were no collisions, and that you're all OK...
She needs to be WAY more careful!

(19,379 posts)I'll be grinding on her for a while about yield signs. She is a good driver though, so hopefully she can get this detail squared away.

I don't even want to think about that.

She's really lucky it wasn't her mom she almost hit. If that had been the case she probably wouldn't get her license until she was 25.

(12,272 posts)She will get the "hard" rules down and I am sure this little incident helped. Good thing her instructor is realistic.

Would have been nice if he'd have injured me so I could sue his miserable ass in civil court, though.

(23,272 posts)She's had 4 hours BTW for the class (and a lot of miles on our own property) but hadn't been on the road in our car...
We have a '99 Honda, 238k miles that needs suspension work (that we're obviously NOT doing) and she learned almost immediately that taking the corners too fast was a BIG mistake! She also was oblivious to turn signals....
But overall for her first time out with me, I was okay with it. She's way better than her older sister was behind the wheel the first time! Good luck with your daughter

(19,379 posts)Worst part is it means they're getting that much more independant (guess that's the best part too. )
