Why do we capitalize "Internet?" I wonder if people who speak other languages, assuming their

language has capital letters, or something like them, also capitalize "Internet."

I may stop doing it. Just to be cantankerous.

Edited to add: We don't capitalize "television." (yeah, we do TV but that's an abbreviation. )

'The Internet' is the global computer network that consists of many individual internets.

'Internet' is a proper noun and so is usually capitalized.

There are many white houses, but there is only one White House.

Proper nouns are ALL capitalized in German, so there's no question as to whether or not to capitalize it in German.
