And never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintances be forgotten,
And days of long ago!
For times gone by, my dear
For times gone by,
We will take a cup of kindness yet
For times gone by.
We two have run about the hillsides
And pulled the daisies fine,
But we have wandered many a weary foot
For times gone by.
We two have waded in the stream
From noon until dinner time,
But seas between us broad have roared
Since times gone by.
And there is a hand, my trusty friend,
And give us a hand of yours,
And we will take a goodwill drink of ale)
For times gone by!
And surely you will pay for your pint,
And surely I will pay for mine!
And we will take a cup of kindness yet
For times gone by!

(23,248 posts)Every time I hear it, it takes me back to a love that almost was...again...on New Year's Eve.....
Sometimes it makes me want to cry, sometimes....something else...
Thanks for posting it! HAPPY NEW YEAR, I_T_W!! May you and yours have a great year filled with all the good stuff!

(17,204 posts)Trivia: one variant of the song suggests we "take a kiss of kindness," rather than a cup.
I added a verse myself some time ago:
And here's to you and yours, my friend
And here's to me and mine.
And here's to us, my dear old friend
And days of auld lang syne.
Won't work with the OP's rhyme scheme.
