That whole Yiddish Indian thing was a joke making a reference to the fact that Hollywood used to have Jews portraying Native Americans. He just took it one step further.

The Hebrew words on Mel's head covering says "Kosher for Passover". He doesn't wear that in the movie. I'm thinking it was an after thought. But, it always made me laugh.

But one great line didn't make it past the censors, hard as that is to believe. When Sheriff Bart and Lili von Shtupp are going at it in the dark, and she squeals her famous "Oh, it's twue, it's twue!" line, Bart was to reply "Uh, pardon me, ma'am, but you're sucking on my arm."

Too bad that didn't make it in.
