We love the restaurant, but holy shit I can't take the programming. I live in a small, rural town that votes deep Red, so there's no chance of getting them to change the channel.
My wife & I are getting breakfast tomorrow and will make every effort to be out of there well before the apocalypse begins at noon.

(63,212 posts)Very nice people. I tell myself that they're bleeding-heart Liberals forced to air Fox in response to local demographic pressures.

(14,400 posts)I hate restaurants with TV's. I find it really takes away from the food and company.

(14,400 posts)or whatever blonde they're now sexually assaulting on Fox can we? I've got to set up the proper framing of my Bacon and Eggs for Instagram. No likes means no friends right?
My wife and I caught ourselves doing this at a diner a few weeks ago, perusing the phone not Instagraming food, and I'm someone who's been pretty quick at mocking people that do it. We made a promise not to pull out electronics in restaurants and phones are banned in the dining room for us and the kids.

(63,212 posts)It was about 8:00AM when we got there, and the place wasn't very crowded. At one table were four older white men, and at the next table two more.
We sat down, fully intending to avoid any political commentary despite the multiple tvs.
About 20 minutes later another man came in with a walking cane shaped like a Louisville Slugger with a handle. He clearly knew all the other men already there, and he brandished the cane in a batter's stance and said that he figured he might need it today.
My wife and I exchanged a glance but said nothing. Then the cane guy went on:
"I might have to deal with some radical Republicans today," clearly referring to his three friends at the table.
They all laughed good-naturedly, and one of the guys at the other table said "We Democrats have to stick together."
The cane guy acknowledged that this is "their day," so we all should let them enjoy it.
"Grab onto the train," noted the other. "We're going for a ride."
It was a remarkable tension-breaker, and very welcome. After that the atmosphere in the place was much lighter.
It's easy to forget that there are other Democrats in my town, so this was a welcome reminder that we're not alone.
