The last book I read was The Believing Brain by Michael Shermer and I'd recommend it.
Pretty soon I will be reading economics text books.

He's brilliant. But unless you're into Outre, you probably won't like it.
Think Phillip k dick meets Lewis carrol on acid with a dash of William Gibson, dr. Seuss, and Dickens.
And so far this seems pretty normal by his standards!
