(14,449 posts)It's what I've done for over 40 years and is not easy for me. But Easter I get all the candy saved up in the freezer and go to town.

(3,071 posts)Salsa without cilantro is terrible.
trof
(54,256 posts)For those of us with a certain gene cilantro tastes like soap or chlorine.
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)but I love Mexican and Tex-Mex so much that I just power through it.
Of course, it didn't hurt that a day-care life-time of getting my mouth washed out with soap for my salty talk inured me to the condition.
Besides, my favorite Mexican place has all day happy hour on Sundays and 2 for 1 22oz Negra Modelos helps wash that soap down.

(51,025 posts)I LOVE the idea of a reset, a time when you can change a habit during the part of the year that is all about rebirth and renewal.
So I'm giving up sugar and flour. Which will be a challenge.

It's not hard, at least not as hard as giving the chemistry of dysprosium, or - perish the thought - giving up reading about the chemistry of plutonium.

(1,756 posts)I'll post this once every day for the rest of lent.....
I just sent a copy to my sister, a USAF Master Sargent, my parents, and am signing up for twitter so I can tweet it 40times to 45.......
"Joke 'em if they can't take a fuck!"

fNord
(1,756 posts)That means you're going to have to do Something 24 hours a day for the next38&1/2 days. Nothing is one of my favorite things to do....it's so rare that I actually get to do it, I couldn't dream of giving it up......

(22,837 posts)I'm going to have to work harder at looking for nothing now, apparently.

littlemissmartypants
(22,837 posts)More Bowie, a dog and facial hair from the start. I'm so glad you fixed that. Looking at that pic makes me think of giving up nylons and garter belts. But resisting might have to stay on the table for now. I like my throat.
Best thread hijack ever.

(9,275 posts)Instead of giving up, say, a favorite food, the idea is to de-clutter your life by filling a trash bag every day of Lent with stuff to throw away, recycle or donate. Not a hoarder but my house tends to be cluttered at times, plus being here 20 years things tend to "accumulate". As cleaning is far from a favorite thing to do, it's a sacrifice of time too.
We Lutherans don't "have" to give up something for Lent but I like this idea. Already one bag behind I'll catch up on the weekend.
Tanuki
(14,923 posts)after several years of declining health. I was very involved in caregiving and accumulated a lot of clutter over that time that I didn't have time or energy to deal with, and also have some of her things now as well that I haven't gone through. I have been feeling overwhelmed and decided to give this a try. My car conked out on March 1 and I had to deal with that first, so I was a couple of days late getting started, but I can already see progress and a steady way forward.
