Tomorrow is my first day.
It's been close to a year since I've worked.
I've spent the last week dusting off cobwebs, resetting my sleeping patterns, and doing extra research on my job and company. Ive bought new work clothes. I've even driven to and from the place a few different ways to make sure I have the timing down.....I hate being late.
Yesterday I FaceTime'd with my Dad.
I love him, But he is a kool-aid drinking republican........
However, one of the things he told me made since.....he said I may be over thinking everything.
He said that you can think something to death if out don't relax.
I have this. It's what I do. I don't know why I'm stressing about it, but.....
I am....
anyone have any calming techniques they would like to share, I'm all ears
And also, wish me luck
Thank you

(7,637 posts)They hired you because they need to fill a job and determined you are the best person for the job. You are making them a favor by filling a need, not the other way around. Just relax and everything will be fine. If you are nervous, err on the side of listening rather than commenting. You will absorb much more and project that you value people opinions.

You're ready.
Walk in happily and with confidence.
You'll do well!

(1,865 posts)Totally 'normal' & understandable to "overthink" it & stress! #1) You have prepared for this! #2) Expect the unexpected! #3) Watch Your self-talk, don't berate YourSelf for not knowing or doing something any new employee wouldn't know. Give YourSelf plenty of "atta-girls" & hi-5's!
#4) NO shame in being nervous... might help to admit it to Your new manager: "I'm a little nervous, I really want to do a goood job!"
#5) TRUST YourSelf. Take things slow & easy, don't share too much personal stuff till You figure out whose who & what's what. Pay attention to Your Intuition!
You got this. Just do Your best, & be kind & gentle to YourSelf! 💖

(8,203 posts)Excellent - research the company - try not to over analyze - the ol' paralysis by analysis.
Answer questions in your own way -
You may find they will ask some quirky questions..like.,if you were an automobile which one would you be?? - (true question asked during my hubby's interview, he got the job) -
smile - be sure of yourself...ask yourself - is this a good job match for you? Write down all the ways it is a good job match....
Why do you think you are right for this job? - explain skills you have that match the job you are interviewing for..- (I'm guessing, they must already have a resume from you)
I was operations Manager for major telco and responsible for hiring..
You will be fine - look, you are already reaching out to those of us who have been there, done that..I am sure there are others here who were, or are, in HR....

(17,331 posts)But for me, I always just have to get through it. The first day turns into the first week and then the first month. Things fall into place. There is high anxiety at some points along the way. There's no magic bullet (or bowl, if ya know what I'm sayin') to make it all go away.
Time. Time will make it easier to adapt, get into a groove, feel comfortable.
I bet you'll be updating this thread or starting another one in a week or two and you'll be telling us how things are generally going well. There will inevitably be some aspects to the workplace or the odd co-worker that will get under your skin -- just like in every occupation -- but you will show they made a good choice by hiring you.

(11,949 posts)But if the opportunity for self depreciating humor opens up, use it.
I have gotten jobs, promotions and raises buy using subtle self depreciating humor.
Obviously, in a job interview you cannot joke that you are a lazy SOB. But you could make a comment about being nervous and glad you got the same color socks on each foot or something like that.
When we open up and criticize ourselves in a light and fun way we create empathy for ourselves. It is the best trick I have ever learned and has take me far.
Of course, this presumes you are going in confident. Which it sounds like you are.
Good luck.
