PHOENIX -- The Oakland Raiders will move to Las Vegas after garnering enough votes from NFL owners on Monday to relocate to Southern Nevada.
Las Vegas Raiders will test NFL's opposition to sports betting
No betting on the Super Bowl in Nevada? Don't laugh, it's possible with the arrival of the Las Vegas Raiders. Here's why the Raiders' move will test the NFL's opposition to sports betting.
The Raiders' dalliance with Las Vegas began some 14 months ago.

(46,051 posts)I've lived in Oakland since 1969, and I adored the old Raiders of the Ken Stabler days. But the team has ripped us off one too many times. I love my city more than I love any team.
Let Las Vegas have them, and I wish Las Vegas the best of luck.

(82,849 posts)This will be a period of unparalleled suckitude for the Raiders. Football players get bored and in trouble in even the most staid cities. Las Vegas will be worse for trouble than New Orleans and New York combined. The Raiders lasted 13 years in L.A. I don't think they'll get even half that in Las Vegas before they come slinking back asking Oakland to take them in again.

(10,893 posts)the Raiders back once they leave. I'm showing Mark Davis the same loyalty as he showed us, which is zero. Let them enjoy Vegas and having to deal with the debt, the smaller market, and having their stadium being taken over by opposing fans.

(46,051 posts)Moved their offices in the middle of the night. Then got mega bucks from Oakland to come back. Then sued us more than once.
Good riddance.

(46,051 posts)I hadn't thought of that.
I wouldn't say I'm gleeful. I'm just glad to have them gone. I hope they don't come back again.

(814 posts)and lived in Oakland for 11 years after they'd moved back. For a lot of that time, Raiders tickets were the biggest ripoff in professional sports considering how much they cost and how badly the team usually performed. I don't hold it against them - I'm sure they weren't TRYING to suck. I hope they do well in Las Vegas. It actually seems like a good match for them and the city.
As for the NFL's supposed aversion to gambling: STFU, NFL owners and commissioner! Nobody believes any of you are more virtuous than the average casino owner.

I thought I'd get flamed. There's more love here for Oakland than for the Raiders.
