Cats can sort of get along without us, but their lives are pretty short. They're not the only domesticated animal that will survive the Zombie Apocalypse. Chickens are also well adapted to survival, believe it or not. Pigs will also do well. Maybe cows. Sheep, not so much. We've kind of ruined them.

Adopted a kitteh in February, she was all skin and bones, but super cute.

The adoption fee was $150 and we wrote the check for that, plus an extra $25 donation.
She was anemic and had a parasitic blood infection (spread by fleas, the vet thinks), we're all in at around $400 so far.
We had to give her oral liquid antibiotics every day for nearly 6-weeks and an oral Prednisone tab daily for 4-weeks.
At adoption, she was a bit under 8.25 pounds, but she's looking much better and has gained around 1.5 pounds.

It's been a rough ride, we had to figure out how she eats as she struggled to eat canned, let alone dry food.
We found tips online about making a soupy mixture by adding water to the pasty-type canned food.
She's now eating 3 small cans of this per day and also eating some dry food.

She was brought up to Chicago from a downstate kill shelter and when we adopted her, it opened up a spot for another cat to move into the no-kill shelter.

Ours is chatty with lots of short vocalizations and 'chirps'.
She and our 10yo cat are having some boundary issues, but nothing serious so far.

We had wonderful grey cat that would follow our son all around the house throughout his high school years. In the latter part of his senior year, she threw a clot that paralyzed her back legs in 2014.

I was at the store picking up groceries and canned food for her, when Mrs. Snark called to say Ms. Chloe would.not be coming home from the vet. I am a big beefy guy and was crying while setting the cat food off the self checkout line.

Pet friends add so much to out lives that it truly hurts when they move over the Rainbow bridge.
Sorry for your loss.

Looks like you've done a wonderful job! She was so very fortunate to have found you!

My cat also had a rough start in life. I found him as a tiny kitten two years ago in a grocery store parking lot. I was lucky that he was pretty healthy, don't think he had been there long, but he was a pretty prickly little guy when I first brought him home. He has come a long way, though, and looks for affection now. And I think he's grown up to be a beautiful cat, as well...

Got mine as a kitten almost 18 years ago. She still gets playful, just not for very long. Likes sleeping and getting petted/cuddled. More like "I'll lay here, and you entertain me."

Hi everyone,

Newbie here! Someone said cats so I came running!

I have 5 cats. Well, two are mine, one is my daughter's rescue cat, and my mother brought her two with her when she moved in with us in November. So, we have my mother's smokey gray (Daisy) who is so old no one knows how old she is, a huge 17 lb. male ginger (Poochy), my daughter's white and black female piebald (Sorin), my little tortie (Magic) and my big fat calico (IttyBittyKitty).

Had a tortoise cat named Roadmeat (Roaddie for short) who tried to kill me every day. Vet, while donning heavy elk skin elbow length gloves to treat her, said torties were notorious as being violent cats. She (cat not vet) would lie on my chest for petting and purring until over-stimulated at which point she would sink her teeth in my throat. One learns to watch carefully for signals and throw her off beforehand. Once, when she was in pain from eating popcorn that fell on the floor, she stalked me around the house growling her intent to slay. I never knew cats could growl. Figured that popcorn cost me $40 a kernel (decade ago) and got me accused by the stranger emergency vet of kicking Roaddie. She was an adventure for twelve years until her bad gut did her in. Still miss her. But then, I still miss them all.
Sorry...forgot the obligatory pic.

their states of matter; they can become liquid at will and pour themselves through small apertures. They are also able to find portals into other universes, which is why they can completely disappear within your house, and then suddenly reappear at your feet when you open a cat food can. Cat physics is different from regular Newtonian physics.

Absolutely was blown away with the cat habitats they showed. I'm assuming they were in Canada as that's where the film was made. But wondering if there are any like that in the US.

They were spot on about the vocalization. I know when my girl wants a brush, wants her Tuna (a treat we have a couple of times a month) and even when she has to pee or poo. For some reason she has a need to let me know that, LOL. She has a different voice for each.
