Facebook updates

On my feed today, I have a friend's status update from just now, another friend's update from 10 minutes ago, and then 700 updates from May 26th. This pattern has repeated every day for at least the past few weeks.

And it's not as though those days-old posts are getting kicked by new responses. Often they're one-offs with no comments at all and no new "reactions" since just minutes after it was posted in the first place.

I mentioned this at work, and a dozen coworkers are experiencing the same thing.

WTF is up with the algorithm? What does FB gain from promoting inactive discussions from days ago? One of my friends' current post shows them "checking in" from game seven of the Stanley Cup playoffs at 7:45PM on 5/25. Thanks, Zuck!
