Bug questions.

Do bugs experience "fear" beyond the instinctual "Don't squish me, dude!"?
The reason I ask, a lady bug landed badly on my windshield and rolled all the way down. Was she thinking, "OH SHIT! OH SHIT! OH SHIT!", or was she just rolling with the flow? Sorta wanted to give her a little hug and tell her everything would be okay.

Do male lady bugs resent being called "lady" bugs? Does LBU (Lady Bug Underground) have an anti-Feminist group where they insist on being called "gentleman" bugs?

Is calling a male Black Widow a Black Widow psychological torture of some kind? I mean, it's sort of like a spoiler alert, if you know what I mean.

I'm up for all answers. I could look it up, but I'm really lazy today and besides, I'd only get all those sciencey stuff answers and I wanna hear from the Lounge intellectuals.

1. I think they're pretty much accepted....

..the wisdom that "some days you're the buyg, some days you're the windshield" and that every day they're the bugs....

2. That actually makes me feel better.

I always go through a few seconds of mourning when a bug I like (moths, in particular) hits the windshield. Now, I realize they probably knew it was coming someday. It's sort of Zen, in a way.

10. When a bug crashes into my windshield

especially if it's right in front of my face, I don't feel too bad because I realize that if that glass weren't there, that damn bug was aiming RIGHT for my face

3. Ever notice how a spider will face you in a seemingly defensive stance?

How drones will chase you away from a hive? There was a guy on DU who was on a sort of nature spiritual path and he said he felt spiders communicate. I treat them like they are sentient beings too.

4. I love spiders.

And I agree, they seem to have a wisdom about them that the rest of the creepy crawly world doesn't. Although, I must have slept with one that didn't return my affection. I woke up yesterday with 4 pretty intense spider bites. The one on my left arm had my whole arm swelled up enough that my sweatshirt didn't fit right. I'm better, now.

I had a wolf spider nip me in my sleep when I lived in Florida, I had red welts on my neck. Do you know what bit you? I am glad the swelling is down or I would have had to suggest you seek medical help.

9. I react pretty bad to spider bites too

but I never kill them. I saved one the other day from the toilet bowl. And a few weeks ago a huge one was on the floor of the shower, so I angled the shower head away from it, and took my shower anyway, but I didn't turn my back on it once!

6. I am an animal rights advocate,

but when it comes to any kind of bug, I kill them. My house was infested with rats a few months ago. I hired a pest control guy and within a few months, he trapped and killed 17 rats. I would do the same with any bugs. I have had those plug-in thingies that are supposed to repel pests. So far, they have worked fine on the bugs, but I guess the rats were immune.

7. I've never had to deal with rats.

I think I'd probably have to move. I have a really hard time killing things. When I was a kid, my parents freaked out when they found out I adopted a "pet" mouse. He'd come out every nite and I'd feed him cheese or crackers. He eventually started walking right up to me. when they found out, they bought one of those "live" traps, only, he didn't survive. I was pretty distraught.

We do have a pretty intense ant problem. I've tried every "natural" remedy I could find. It's going to have to be up to the husband soon.
