(5,256 posts)Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - a mind-boggling, stupid cancellation.
Reunion - a fun mystery show with each episode portraying one of 20 years since high school for a group of friends, one of whom was killed in present day, so the premise was trying to work out who did it and why. Yanked by the network idiots after 13 eps and the killer was never revealed.
Both of these atrocities committed by Fox.

(28,394 posts)I think Timeless was eventually renewed. Don't know why the other two were cancelled. They were as good as anything else on network TV and good premises.
Also... there was one last year about a voice that only children could hear. Was it "Whispers" or something like that? That one was good and spooky.
I'm also disappointed that Aquarius was cancelled. There were plenty of ways to extend it into the 1970s.

(40,416 posts)I have them all on DVD.
Wonderful cast. Michael Kitchen (Foyle) does so much without speaking a single word. Honeysuckle Weeks (Samantha) never shuts up. The interplay is absolutely astounding. The scripts are universally very good, always a good sign in any entertainment.
I binge watch them all again on occasion.
Iggo
(47,558 posts)Seems to me like it should have ended with the war, being that Foyle's War was how he spent WWII as a cop instead of in the military.
I do like that look on his face, almost painful, while he's waiting for whoever he's talking to to catch on to what he's saying. Like you said, without a word.

(62,426 posts)and really don't watch a lot of TV these days - but from a ways back:
- Eerie, Indiana - what a fun quirky little show. I heard there was an attempt at a revival but it really sucked.
- Ellery Queen (from the early 80s I think) - one season and a fun show. Believe it was reworked into "Murder She Wrote"
Phentex

(62,426 posts)We had a pit sofa back then. The two girls @8 and 6 years old, the cocker spaniel, my wife and I would all gather under blankets with a huge bowl of buttered popcorn and a bottle of pop. Then we would watch the show. Since Murder was on for so many years this was a tradition that lasted a while.
We always wondered how jessica could have any friends because it seemed like many of her friends ended up dead.
It really was a family show. The kind they don't make anymore.
Wounded Bear
(58,670 posts)around the time that I learned to spot the murderer by half way through the show.
In the end, it was pretty formulaic, a problem suffered by many detective shows that run too long.

(7,530 posts)Firefly was too good, seamlessly combining Space Opera and Western Pioneer Adventure genres following a heart-of-gold outlaw adventuring around the universe in a rickety cargo ship with his renegade crew. It should have lasted much longer with its new-fangled take on Star Trek/Star Wars/Indiana Jones tropes, great characters, and richly-imagined worldbuilding that was both plausible and fantastic.

Hannibal had three seasons that were some of the most shocking and daring TV on a broadcast network filled with heady psychology and gruesomely amazing imagery. They were able to bring the series to a shocking dramatic conclusion, but I read there were master plans for 6-7 seasons that would include reimagining the events of Silence of the Lambs. I wish Netflix had picked it up. Hannibal is manipulative and frightening, feeding his cannibal shenanigans, holding elaborate dinner parties and *helping the FBI* as a legitimate expert in the psychology of serial killers (BECAUSE HE IS ONE). One episode featured Molly Shannon (?!?!) as a serial killer whose M.O. was manipulating children to kill their families and was initially not aired because it was *too* *shocking* despite a lack of overtly explicit gore.

(82,849 posts)Was she really interacting with God? Was it a fever dream brought on by Lyme Disease? What did all the manifestations mean? And yes, the end of the second season was all set up for some kind of apocalyptic showdown with Satan or a reasonable facsimile. Then poof! Done. The supporting cast was first rate, and the ancillary story lines were very good as well.
Newsradio died too soon, but so did Phil Hartman and while the show tried mightily to keep going after his murder, it just wasn't the same.
In a similar vein, SportsNight was a real hoot that ended way too soon. I remember one episode where the on-air talent had confided some secret to his producer girlfriend, and it got back to him. He gathered everyone together to find out how his secret had gotten out. Producer says, "Well, I told my assistant, but she kind of needed to know. She's the only one I told." Assistant: "I kept your secret. I told only my boyfriend about it, because it was just too juicy not to share." Assistant's boyfriend: "I told many, many people."
Rhiannon12866
(205,552 posts)I took it literally, LOL, figured that's what the show was about - her seeing God in various forms. It was a TV show, after all. I guess I could have accepted that it was a dream brought on by illness - physical or otherwise, but I had gotten used to believing the premise. So I really wanted this resolved, but it never happened.
Your SportsNight story reminded me of another one I was a real fan of - WIOU. The story was behind the scenes of a struggling local TV newsroom. I really liked that one and I got my cousin to watch it - and then her colleagues - since she worked in a local Colorado newsroom.

(42,159 posts)I believe it was due to ratings that it was taken off air, but
Rhiannon12866
(205,552 posts)Though the premise was kind of out there. I even uncharacteristically wrote a letter to the network at the urging of my friend who was also a fan - and so did my aunt! The finale had a huge buildup, but not all that much happened. It was supposed to be resolved in the next season - which never materialized.
Phentex
(16,334 posts)it was a cheesy drama, possibly critically acclaimed, but never found a large following. So before it could die a natural death, they had to write a quick ending and try to tie everything up.

(11,119 posts)I really loved the theme song, too! My favorite scene is the one in which the Gerritt Graham character thinks he has been receiving instructions from the distinct, disembodied voice of God (Dennis Haysbert's voice). Later in the episode the Gerrit Graham character is face to face with the speaking Dennis Haysbert and briefly believes that God is black. The expression on Gerrit Graham's face is PRICELESS!
