(10,054 posts)By the way - I so enjoy the lil detour I take to your music thread every day. 😀

(27,215 posts)It's really funny, I started with 1968, and I got an overwhelming response, so I decided to just keep going.
It's been a lot of fun for me, as well!

(1,642 posts)Put on headphones, close your eyes and it takes you there.
Whenever I hear a live version of it, it lacks the magic of the album version.
Don't forget Cygnus X-1 for an awesome rocket ride.

(12,132 posts)before deciding on Xanadu. Ask me again in a couple days and I might go with Cygnus. So much to love about both.
I was listening to Moving Pictures on the way home from work last night and decided I need to upgrade the stereo in my brand new truck. It sounded great. But I want it to sound greater.

(1,642 posts)The MV was the album out when I got into Rush. It just played out too fast. Too much radio time.
Knowing that YYZ and Tom Sawyer were the last songs, I could always leave the concert a few mins early and not get stuck in the parking lot!
If you want greater sound, go for the gain. The signal will travel through several (pre-)amps before the speakers. The louder you can get it for that first preamp, the more full the sound will be as it travels down the rest of the path.
Oh, and I was in band where I was the singer, and they made me do Limelight. (There's two notes I can't hit.) I have a lot of resentment toward MV!

(12,132 posts)when I was in high school. BUT I went to a christian high school then and I wasn't allowed to listen to that or any other rock. I only heard stuff like that because I did still have to go out in the world. I remember hearing that and many other now classic radio songs at BBQ joints where I worked and malls where I shopped (in the shopping malls!) in high school.
But then I graduated in 81 and left home three months thereafter to escape some lunacy. Met a guy who promptly educated me on Zeppelin and Rush and they have been my favorite bands ever since. All-time favorites even though the majority of my listening is now death metal.
I remember hating Tom Sawyer because church told me to. I remember when I was freed from that shackle and found out about all kinds of music that I now love dearly. Some I like because it would piss off my stepfather (i'm 53 now and should be over it but seriously, fuck that asshole) and the rest I just love because music is so awesome.
I just discovered there is such a thing as a powered sub-woofer that includes built in amp and crossover and all those words I've heard but don't really understand lol. They say it will fit under my back seats but I don't know how much that will help or if I'd be better off doing something else. I need to find out what my factory stereo is pushing I suppose - I have no idea of the specifications because it's still so new I haven't even received my owners manual yet. (dealer had to order one and is sending it to me).

(1,642 posts)for best song that year, I'll choose this ...

(12,132 posts)glad I got to see them back in the day - well, back in the 80s lol. That was closer to the day.

(1,642 posts)They warmed up for Yes. I wasn't super thrilled with the show.
I really love Kansas music. All of their albums were terrific until Walsh left the band. Then they went full-out Christian rock.
Walsh then returns for two few albums without Livgren. These two get very high marks.
