Finish this thought. Some examples.
My dream house would be near a lake.
My dream house would be a yurt.
My dream house would have a ballroom.
My dream house would have a chef's kitchen.
Personally, my dream house would have a small beautiful library filled with books. It would be within walking distance of stores and restaurants in a small to medium city. There would be a nice kitchen with a breakfast nook and maybe a butlers pantry. I would have a nice front porch and a vegetable garden. I would like a home with historic details like crown molding and antiques.

(20,495 posts)I'll let you figure out why.

(21,596 posts)There's a hidden hose reel in each room with a hot and cold water connection. You just wash down the floors and it all goes down the drain!
Self cleaning house!! (Sadly, mostly dismantled now.)

(37,343 posts)The holes in the drain grate where big enough to allow teeth to fall through. The chairs and tables were set in the concrete floor so they could not be thrown.

(24,007 posts)..new house in 1994, our sons were 1 1/2 and not quite 4. I thought many times that we should have designed the kitchen floor much like that - a drain in the center, and water jets around the bases of all the cupboards. I would have hosed the kitchen down after every meal and snack, just like they do at zoos, which would have been at least 6 times a day.
I would have opted for tile rather than cement.

(1,009 posts)would be on the beach.
But like ret5hd, it would have to be waterproof and have cement floors and a water drain in the center of every room.

(205,486 posts)She lived there while her house was being built. It wasn't all that comfortable, especially in the winter. And it doesn't have a bathroom.

(3,275 posts)I was just using it as an example.

(6,362 posts)with lots of hanging and potted plants. And part of the porch would be capable of being closed in and function as a greenhouse. The greenhouse (much like the whole house wishes above) would have sloped (slate maybe?) floors to a drain so I could water everything with a hose.
And my kitchen would have nooks and crannies designed for all the gadgets. Counter space would always be ample. And there would be a cozy little table/seating area in front of a bay window for reading or munching and visiting the cook.

(23,247 posts)filled with books. And a desk the size of Rhode Island, with a huge computer station next to it (or behnd it).
I am so effin' tired of having my whole life crammed into 3-ft by 4-ft. . Can't lay down a sheet of paper in this sh*thole! . .

(16,334 posts)just clear enough so that trees would not fall on the house. It would be a small, cabin like home with simple furniture. A soaking tub and an outdoor shower would be nice. I would prefer a place that's cold and gray most of the year but definitely snowy some of the time. Bears and other wildlife optional.
WhiteTara
(29,718 posts)a pond. It also comes with a full time gardener. It will also have a great master bathroom and there is a laundry room in it.

(12,157 posts)With a view of the ocean. One room a great library with a smaller office adjoining. The kitchen fully equipped to suit Juila Child. The house would be sitting on at least 10 acres with well built, well maintained dry stone walls.
Well, it is a dream.

(3,275 posts)I would like a fully stocked large kitchen.

(12,157 posts)My theory is that eating and drinking Irish food, breathing the air and enjoying the people somehow mutated my genes from French to Irish. All I know is that as the plane climbed where I couldn't see Ireland I felt a pain in my heart like an Ireland shape was torn out. May sound a bit melodramatic but it is true non the less.

(24,007 posts)...room with bookshelves to the ceiling and library ladders, a fireplace, comfy leather chairs, and a spiral staircase.
It would also have a giant closet for me, that would be the same size as my husband's workshop where he does all his model airp/ane building. Seems only fair.
it has been my observation over the years that the man of the family often has some sort of workshop/man cave/ etc that is pretty much his territory. Unless the woman of the family has a serious avocation of her own, there is usually not a "woman cave" that is exclusively hers. The kitchen and laundry room do not count.

(115,734 posts)There would be a beach and a dock and a sailboat.
It would have a beautiful garden and would be surrounded by woods.
It would have a big playroom just for my cats.
It would have a porch where I could sit and sip a glass of wine and look at the water.
It would be a one-story house so I don't have to haul my tired old ass up the stairs.
It would have skylights and a fireplace.
It would be somewhere far away from Republicans, maybe in a socialist hellhole like Norway or Sweden.

(3,275 posts)I like it when people convert buildings into houses. I've seen homes made out of banks, schools, firehouses, train stations, etc.
mythology
(9,527 posts)A library room for all my books, a room with a fireplace, a hot tub, a pool, secluded porch with room for a hammock, a garage, integrated sound system, a large kitchen, and a hobby room. Ideally it would be made out of eco-friendly materials, with solar panels and all one story as eventually my knees are going to turn to rot and I'd rather not have to deal with stairs.
Oh and some place I can get good internet.

(39,343 posts)assume you are going to pick up from a drive thru or eat out every meal. My refrigerator is even located against a wall where I cannot fully open my freezer door.
I want a walk in fridge/freezer, gas stove and oven, counter space for appliances like my panini press, mixer, rice maker.....
I want storage for grains where bugs cannot get to them.
