An employee of the Bill Penney Toyota car dealership is jailed for shooting a man at the business after the victim paid him for a pistol using fake money, police said.

Phillip Gilliam, 21, an employee of the car dealership's service department, is accused of shooting the man Friday around 1:15 p.m., said Huntsville police Lt. Stacy Bates.

The victim, a 23-year-old, was at the 4808 University Drive business to buy a pistol from Gilliam. Police said after paying with counterfeit money, the victim attempted to run to a car with the pistol.

"Gilliam drew another handgun and ran after the male firing shots at him," Bates said in a news release. "The male got in the passenger side of a waiting car and while leaving the scene Gilliam fired shots at the car."

because it's heritage, or some such BS.

First, it ought to be illegal to sell a gun without an FFL involved to perform a background check.

Second, you go to jail if you shoot someone over money or a dispute where you life is in little danger save for the dang gun you strapped on before leaving home.

When are we going to wise up and pass legislation like Australia did in 1996?
