I'm just outside & figured why bother with the hoopla-front yard is nice.
We basically got the dimming of a cloudy day & a giant smiley / frowny face in the sky. Still fun & I had a proper viewer. But Nasa was better and less hassle.
Not a fan of crowds or traffic so I did Ok. But yeah totality is a different ballgame. My daughter saw the wavy lines effect-I saw it very briefly on my white siding.
Just outside Gresham Oregon btw...

(205,362 posts)At least I had the TV, but that was still disappointing. I still remember experiencing an eclipse as a little kid, my cousin and I stood outside with those pinhole contraptions that we made. I can't say what year, I was pretty little, but at least I got to experience one.

(21,596 posts)It was like nothing we'd ever experienced. 🌑
We drove from our home about an hour north to a small state park on a lake. Everyone was so nice. There was not a huge number of people. It was beautiful and amazing.🌚

(9,899 posts)The totality was awesome, totally worth the 900+ miles each way. It was me the wife and our 23yo son, for an epic family road trip.
We (my wife) found a spot with less then two weeks to go, a really cool little pasture with a swimming hole/river front. Bands all through the weekend, and Monday, a couple of concession stands.
On the way home there was congestion at each of the little crossroad towns, but once we got south of Burns the congestion sorted itself out.
