(39,343 posts)Near JU we are usually last, but this time we got it back Tuesday night we lost it Wednesday morning but got it back Wednesday night.
How'd you do damage wise? I wanted a new roof and it looks like I'll get one. We lost a dozen shingles and had a small leak in the garage that will result in some sheetrock replacement.

(16,067 posts)I bought that generator on Friday. Just knew I was going to need it. I do have a few connections.
We got power back on Thursday morning.

(6,377 posts)Have power. My apartment complex buried its power lines, which I think is why we still have it.

(33,019 posts)I have lived through power failures due to ice or branches taking down power lines, even 2 squirrel suicides...Yes, it would cost money to bury the lines, but how is it different from cable fiber optic lines being buried, or new developments having buried lines?

(23,731 posts)Had power throughout, it was scary crazy Sat night when the storm went over. Got flooded, not from storm, but from pin hole in my copper plumbing.

(14,565 posts)My house did fine but my aunt's home about a mile away lost many tall trees and branches in her huge back yard. Fortunately nothing fell toward her house although she did lose a nice wooden fence.
I've been going over there every afternoon to clear the debris. I have to walk 40 yards back and forth to a tall green link fence to toss the branches onto a huge debris pile that several homes are sharing. My aunt initially thought clean up would take a full month but we've made so much progress I think another couple of days will do it. However, she has one massive tree downed that will require specialized equipment. I have no idea what she is going to do about that. Leaving it there is an option.
My doctor would not be pleased. Two weeks ago he told me a back x-ray revealed two areas of narrowing in my lower back. I was advised not to lift anything heavy. I've tried to be careful but that lower back indeed hurts every day, including right now.
It was weird driving back to Miami late Tuesday night because my house had power but nearby neighborhoods did not, including all the homes smack across the street. I felt somewhat guilty. My neighbor ran a long yellow extension cord across the street to give power to the nice family who live across from him. Those homes finally had power restored today.
I was without cable and internet until Thursday afternoon but the power never went out so my freezer contents were saved. It was full.
Now I hope that damn invest in the Atlantic fizzles out or heads elsewhere. I'm worn out and am supposed to be leaving on a 2 week trip on the 27th.
