(13,595 posts)Considering some of the acts that are in, that are not even Rock and Roll, you wonder what it's for if B.O.C. isn't in. You can't listen to any classic rock station for long without hearing one of their big ones.
HeartachesNhangovers
(814 posts)metal trailblazers early on, their songs had great hooks and they did a bunch of great pop songs later.

(13,595 posts)and really rock! Those guys were always best live. Even a later song like "Take Me Away". In a couple live cuts I have, Eric Bloom blows away his studio vocals, hitting notes higher and clearer. They ramp up about everything live.

(47,558 posts)They are an AMAZING live band!

(13,595 posts)that one is also my favorite.
I saw them in a bar maybe about 2000. It was a small stage and their bass player kicked out Buck's cord right during the Burnin' For You solo. He misses about a third of it plugging himself back in and picks it up perfectly and nails the rest of it!
At that one, the had to come right through the crowd to the stage, walked right by me as I was making my way to our table with drinks. Real little dudes, but giants to me!

(47,558 posts)And there's a ton of singing in that song.
Bass player is a monster, too. So is the piano player.
In fact, during the bass solo, the whole bass rig took a shit, and the piano player grabbed a guitar and came out and did his own solo to cover.
These guys are real pros, and they're really a joy to see.

(13,595 posts)Everyone of them, including their original drummer Albert Bouchard, could play a pretty mean guitar too. I know Albert sang Cities on Flame in the original band, Bloom took that over after they fired Albert. Albert's brother Joe sang Hot Rails to Hell.
It's a shame they didn't induct them before Lanier passed away. If they had, they could have gotten the whole original band out for it. Lanier really made the band, he was to them what Billy Powell was to Skynard, a big reason to go see them. I saw them last on what I think was their 30th anniversary tour, right after Lanier retired. It was a really great show, even without him. They had said they were really going to play some of the great early stuff and didn't disappoint. My buddy I went with is an aficionado of the early stuff and wouldn't probably have gone if that wasn't the case.
Sadly, Eric Bloom really can't sing any more. He's lost it over the last few years. He was one of the very underrated singers when he could do it all. If they come around out here to Idaho again, I'll go anyway. Just hearing Buck play is worth whatever they will be charging.
I recently bought this "Harvester of Lives" set off Itunes. A collection of over 50 live cuts from over the years, including two of the best versions of Me-262 I've ever heard. It's kind of like the Zep BBC sessions, a couple versions of the same song. i'm working on deciding my favorites off it to burn onto a couple CD's for my truck.

(5,914 posts)They've got some other guy singing Eric's parts on some of the songs who sounds just like his younger self.
They are ALWAYS worth seeing when they come around. Those guys bust their asses.

(13,595 posts)of their run. Started out as sound guy, filled in on bass, now plays guitar and keys and does a good job. It seems like he's pretty important to them, keeping a quality lineup going. He's been with them now for well over ten years. They must be paying him pretty well.

(5,914 posts)Aside from always being a goddamn genius and a commander of the British empire, she directly influenced Madonna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and EVERYONE else who does that costumes-and-dancing-around-while-singing thing. That little microphone headset they all wear? Kate invented that using a lavalier and a coat hanger.
