Just a short drive away from Highway 50 within the town of Baker, Nevada is the entrance to Great Basin National Park. It is filled with spectacular scenic views and ancient natural beauty, such as the iconic Bristlecone Pine trees which are some of the oldest non-clonal organisms known to humanity!

those 13K heights have to be amazing.
Looking at things like this is the reason America is great. If we can only keep our lands out of the hand of corporations, if only.
Thanks for the trip.

(8,632 posts)When we were driving through the Wyoming snowstorm, we were driving through the Continental Divide, which is over 7,000 feet in elevation. I'm pretty sure we were close to the 10,000 feet elevation mark when we reached the roadblock going up through Great Basin. If we ever go there again, I think we might want to go in the middle of summer to really get around.
Seeing so much natural beauty, it scares me what the current charade of an administration might persuade the Department of Interior to do to our wonderful National Parks. If they try anything that hints of privatization, we will march, petition, sit-in; whatever it takes to obstruct and deny such a travesty.
Glad you're enjoying the trip! We're still working on editing and we still have lots to share. Thank you!

(8,632 posts)We only had a limited time there on our way to a hotel reservation in Ely. We really hope there's a next time. The Caves sounded so wonderful.
