The high-school-aged sister of one of my students disappeared Wednesday night

I can't imagine what the family is going through

The only experience I have with such matters is unhelpful: when I was in high school, a girl I knew slightly disappeared. After about six months, the family had prepared themselves for a long wait and eventual grim news; but then she reappeared at the front door, unharmed, saying she had wanted to try life on her own on the streets for a while

I can't tell my student that story, though, because it's really not relevant to what she's experiencing right now
