(2,208 posts)It seemed like someone who was offended by the notion that President Obama may not be in control of the "MIC" and at the notion that the "MIC" may in fact be in control of President Obama?

(11,481 posts)DU got popular during the Wisconsin uprising. The union side touted this web site as THE "go to" place for up to the minute news and commentary. After that it was only a matter of time before the neo-cons and DINOs came on here to set us straight,
Unfortunately, they stayed around.

(32,003 posts)we have these tensions abroad and active strikes in the fast food business this week - it's no wonder we're getting so much attention. Well maybe they'll learn something while they're here ...

sadly, have a reason for being. But most wars do not. Only the rich profit from war, all wars. Everyone else is forced either to fight in that war(rich kids usually don't) and have to suffer deprivation, combat, injury, psychological and emotional damage at the needless waste of humanity that ALL war brings with it. It just seems that in the last 12 years, war is the preferred manner of settling differences or gaining precious items like lithium desired by industry and oil that is needed and desired by us all. The last 80 years? I've studied them(wars) and Hitler was the only provocateur that needed to be destroyed. Arbeit macht frei camps deserved to be stopped and the mentality that drove the formation of those camps destroyed. Sadly that thinking is still with us. Wars. Greed. A stain on human existence. Sorry, went off on a rant.

(32,003 posts)my dad is a disabled veteran of the VietNam "conflict". When you live with someone who is disabled for years it really hits home. Most of the folks who gleefully declare war and send off the troops are not spilling much of their own blood for the "cause".
Occasionally something is so heinous that folks have to intervene. No question. But mostly I see a country that manufactures reasons to be involved or interestingly only wants to rescue folks in places where they have "economic interests". I am still waiting for someone to think about the conditions of women in Saudi Arabia. Sadly as long as SA is cooperative with our major oil companies nothing is going to change there.

(11,481 posts)No truer words were ever spoken.
From the movie "Reds":
Reporter: "Who's winning the war Jack?"
Jack Reed: "J.P. Morgan."
And J.P. Morgan is STILL "winning the war" (whichever war it is). Along with Halliburton.

(32,003 posts)It was not Hitler's attacks on the Jews that brought the United States into World War II, any more than the enslavement of 4 million blacks brought Civil War in 1861. Italy's attack on Ethiopia, Hitler's invasion of Austria, his takeover of Czechoslovakia, his attack on Poland-none of those events caused the United States to enter the war, although Roosevelt did begin to give important aid to England. What brought the United States fully into the war was the Japanese attack on the American naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941. Surely it was not the humane concern for Japan's bombing of civilians that led to Roosevelt's outraged call for war-Japan's attack on China in 1937, her bombing of civilians at Nan king, had not provoked the United States to war. It was the Japanese attack on a link in the American Pacific Empire that did it.
Much more here (Zinn on America's involvement in WWII): http://libcom.org/history/world-war-ii-peoples-war-howard-zinn
