And you've captured the model's expression beautifully. Is this a self-portrait?

This is a pencil sketch of my nephew, who recently passed away in a boating accident. He was a good kid.

No wonder the portrait is drawn with such care. Your drawing conveys a beautiful, warm soul.

I like the way you drew his face. You put thought and care into your work. The aspects I think you did really well are his eyes and eyebrows which look realistic with the hint of moisture in the eyes.

I also like the gradation of shadows in the face. Have you thought to blend the shading so it looks smooth, like real skin? You can certainly develop the drawing more if you do that, but it doesn’t need it if you want to leave it as is.

The way you darkened the background does a great job of making his face really stand out.

I think you did a good job on this drawing, especially by differentiating the shadows cast by direct lighting and the more subtle normal and softer shading depicting the curves of the face. The cast shadows around the eyes are really well done.

Your model looks like a very sensitive person. He’s quite handsome too!
