Documentary about silent film legend needs our help!
Today, a legend of silent cinema needs our help. Alice Guy-Blache was a true pioneer of filmmaking. Incredibly creative and innovative, she was nothing less than film's first storyteller--one of the first to recognize the potential of movies to tell narratives to entertain and inform audiences, as well as inspire social change. Guy-Blache was a screenwriter, director, producer, and owner of her own film company. And she did it all before women could even vote.
Sadly, due to the politics of gender and nations, this French woman has largely been written out of film history. Filmmakers Pamela Green and Jarik van Sluijs want to change that with a documentary about her life and work in the silent film era. However, it cannot be done on the cheap. Noteably, it will involve preserving footage of some of Guy-Blaches surviving films and, in some cases, transferring it from its original nitrate to modern, stable formats. Green and van Sluijs have a Kickstarter campaign to fund their project. It is in its last days and short of its goal.
If you can, please take take a few minutes to view the trailer they have put together and consider a donation. Even just a dollar or two will help. Even if all you can do is share this message with your friends, please do it. Keep in mind that unlike other movie Kickstarters you might have heard about, if this campaign fails, this documentary likely will NOT be made.
I love Alice's movies, and as a woman trying to wear a lot of hats while attempting to express herself creativity, I find inspiration in what she was able to accomplish.
In the end, each of us is just a story, and Alices deserves to be remembered. Thank you!
