On his retirement Victor Mature changed the way television sets were marketed and sold. In the 50s and 60s the TV set was bought at an appliance
store next to the refrigerators and washing machines. Mature thought that since just about all TVs at the time were used in living rooms it should be regarded as furniture.

He opened a chain of retail stores in Hollywood and L.A. that sold TVs along with sofas and end tables. The wood cabinet "console" TV became a popular addition to the decor in American homes.
