I've never seen Hold Back the Dawn or In This Our Life, but I love The Heiress. She has one of those transparent faces, where you can see every emotion that the character feels, and in The Heiress, you can follow her heart throughout the film. No wonder she won an Oscar for the part.

(P.S. I love that the folks on DU have extensive vocabularies and aren't afraid to use them. I'm tired of dumbing things down on the 'Net, so I really appreciated your "fecundity"!)

And speaking of all the movies with pregnant protagonists, I have to wonder how many of the earlier movies will avoid so much as the suggestion of a maternity dress. I've seen enough Production Code-era movies to be entertained by the magic trick of the full-term baby from a mother who never actually looked pregnant.
