People love his concerto for flute and harp.

He just had a way with everything.

What university? I am in the Sierra Foothills, and get only one classical station, CapRadio (Sacramento State) from its repeater in Groveland, when it is not knocked out of service or running on low power. It competes with a public station in San Luis Obispo. Needless to say, I have some altitude to manage this. 2750 feet.

But I do more listening over the internet. Especially since I got rid of the cellular internet (Jet Pack). The cell signal bounces between 4 bars and No Service, and I can see cell towers all around me. Including a brand new one. I take photos of them.

But I got wired internet, DSL is the best that is available here, but streaming audio takes up very little bandwidth. It did not even tax the jet pack, when it actually got a signal.

I listen often to WDAV (Davidson College), WBJC (yes! Baltimore City Junior College?) and quite often to WQXR, for the Operavore channel. But being an old radio guy, I most often switch on the old Kenwood tuner (they do not make gear like they used to) and an amplified bar antenna (it rejects the San Luis Obispo station as well as it can, and countless TV/FM signal boosters.

Internet stations are actually easier to deal with. I assign an old ipod to play them.

Thanks for the classical postings.
Love the stuff.

FWIW, I find that the longest lasting and most beloved works are (drum roll ...) melodic. They have great melodies. Everything Mozart wrote, with some possible exceptions, was opera. And I noted the same with Tchaikovsky and Brahms, and others. Just my observation. I also like stuff that is not so popular.

CapRadio (I use their app) has an opera program Saturday nights (they are starting the ring cycle as they do once a year) next Saturday, I believe. After the weekly opera the host plays "Opera Potpourri" and tends to really overplay the "chestnuts" as I call them. Oh Mio Babbino Caro, The Flower Duet from Lakme, Nessun Dorma and so on. People ask for it. Oh well.

There are arias that I *can* hear over and over, and love them more every time, but that is for another discussion.

WQXR operavore channel is not so "top twenty" with their choice of arias.

Pardon any typos. I have a bouncy keyboard for this ipad, and am too tired to get my reading glasses. Had a long day.

You can get replays of all the Saturday Night Operas at capradio.org or through their app.
It does run very late. Operas start on air at 8 p.m. Pacific Time.
Cheers!
