This song was really about losing the Prince name and a dig at another performer he saw as compliant
My reaction to a news feed -the chorus came up and made me think of this song when I read this quote today & got stuck in my head so share..
Youll say Im very conceited, Trump said, adding, Other than the blond hair when I was growing up they said I look like Elvis.

(9,895 posts)My wife and I saw his Indianapolis and St. Louis performances in 1997 on the Emancipation Tour and the versions of "Face Down" were 10 minute magnum opuses. We will never forget them or the people in the crowd after who were confused and asking "What the hell did that have to do with Elvis?"

He asked I can play all night , can you?
The crowd went wild & it seemed endless like he could!
Emancipation tour with new band in Chicago and that was followed the next year by the New Power soul (or rb?)tour at a smaller ballroom venue here which it was an extra treat to experience that
The evil side of my brain thought of this song when trump said he was just like Elvis

Your quote above applies to me as well...
"Dead...like Elvis....FACE DOWN!!!"
On a happier note (but tinged with the sadness of his way too soon loss), the Prince shows that I saw were without exception among the best performances I ever saw. There was an energy and a presence from the stage that was infectious and joyful and soulful that I have not seen other performers match for the 2 1/2 to 3 hours Prince performed. Springsteen shows in the 80's and 90's had a different vibe but similar artist-crowd connection and U2's Zoo TV tour was a far bigger spectacle, but nothing quite measured up to a Prince performance in my experience...
