Bert Jansch always received mixed reviews for his singing due to his gruff voice, although it fit in well in some pieces such as The Hunting Song. Jacqui McShee is what truly distinguished the group with her angelic voice.

Love most of their work, and find a some of their songs boring. Too bad they couldn't find a way to get a better following. Truly gifted artists who couldn't quite make the big time.

Thanks for this.

I recently bought a turntable and have been listening to the old albums. Fun.

Although I loved just about every song they did, my all time favorite was "Once I Had a Sweetheart". I really liked the sitar in it, and thought it was really groovy. I was really into Indian music when I was in high school in Japan, and checked out just about every book I could find on Indian music from the library of the Indian embassy in Tokyo. I also borrowed this guy's sitar for a month and played on it, and after I gave it back to him, I made my own version of a sitar from local materials and sitar strings that were procured for me by the Indian embassy. That was before I got into the Pan Flute, but I was making my own flutes from bamboo and other materials in high school as well. I leave you with a link to a video of "Once I Had a Sweetheart":
