I was hoping to hear a vocalist with similar talent as Jacqui McShee, but instead I heard a tortured cat. I'm surprised that Bert picked Anne as a vocalist since she would inevitably be compared to McShee. Of course, Jansch was often maligned for his vocals so apparently the best move he made as a musician was being associated with McShee and the other three members of the Pentangle.

Briggs is the hidden jewel of Brit Folk - she inspired Sandy Denny and Maddy Prior. She didn’t record much and a lot was a capella - she also recorded with Andy Irvine. Richard Thompson took her arrangement of Willie O Winsbury and turned it into Farewell Farewell. His song Beeswing is inspired by her.
Her entire recorded legacy is about 20 songs, and they’re just gorgeous.

There are so many great female vocalists from Great Britain, but I won't be searching for any of Briggs' works based on this sample of her artistry. Just my unqualified opinion from a former trumpet player.

I can see it not being for all tastes. I discovered her from digging backwards from Fairport and Steeleye into the older generations like the Watersons and Martin Carthy.
Incidentally, Jansch’s guitar part was stolen by Jimmy Page for “Black Mountain Side”.

I'd like to have heard Sandy Denny sing this with Jansch.
