Guitar legends assemble for the epic charity single benefitting the Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America
Mark Knopfler has shared the video for his all-star Guitar Heroes remake of Going Home (Theme From Local Hero), which features the greatest collection of six string talent ever assembled for a single track.
Released to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America, the single was recorded by Knopfler with longtime collaborator Guy Fletcher, and wrapped in cover art from Sir Peter Blake, the man behind the iconic sleeves of The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper album and the Band Aid charity single Do They Know It's Christmas? Guests on the new recording include David Gilmour, Pete Townshend, Ronnie Wood, Slash, Brian May, Bruce Springsteen, Tony Iommi, Eric Clapton, Hank Marvin, Joan Jett, Alex Lifeson and Albert Lee, and the song also features the very final recording made by the late, great Jeff Beck.
Out-going Teenage Cancer Trust Honorary Patron Roger Daltery from The Who plays harmonica on the track, Sting provides bass, and drums are performed by the father and son duo Ringo Starr and Zak Starkey (The Who).
A minimum of 50% of net proceeds received by BMG Rights Management (UK) Limited from the sale of this recording will be given to Teenage Cancer Trust which shall be shared equally with Teen Cancer America.

(13,107 posts)The sounds he gets from his guitars are other worldly.
I have been binging on Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler for about 3 months.
He is self taught.
He doesn't read music.
He plays by ear.
He writes the lyrics for almost all of his songs.(While in Dire Straits and after).
He composed the sound tracks for 9 movies. I have seen 2. (The Princess Bride and Wag The Dog)
He has albums with Chet Atkins, The Notting Hillbillies, and Emmylou Harris.
He and Emmylou sing "I Dug Up A Diamond". It is absolutely beautiful !!!!
He has played with many other musicians live and on albums.
He worked on a Bob Dylan album.
He is an exceptional guitar player, writer, composer and wonderful storyteller.

(1,819 posts)Is my personal guitar hero. He has more talent in his little finger than most people who claim to be guitar players.

(65,061 posts)Love how the video let's us know who's playing.
A few though, I didn't need to be told.
Especially Mark. Despite the density of the sound you can clearly hear Mark's guitar. It's so signature.
Of course, the cause is special!
Finally, wow!!!!! The names involved.
