Love they way he shifting modes but always retreating to Ionian (major scale) just before those "la la las" come in.
The synth solo (sounds like a DX7 to me) has some very clever ideas.
Also, that has to be Stanley Clarke on bass. His playing is very distinctive, with the big intervals & all the above the 12th fret stuff.
Very cool.
