I saw him nearly every time he came to Portland since the late seventies. I especially loved his shows with Steve Goodman.

The second song I learned to play and sing to many many years back. The first, Souvenirs. RIP dear John. My play list is packed deep in John's magical stories.
The last years he wrote were just as perfect as his earliest songs.
Miss him so much, but we connect everyday.

I dwell in these mountains too. Hard being blue here.
But John sure offers a place to reflect on and appreciate the good.

It wasn't so in my home area until more recent times. The deterioration has continued for years and the region is mostly hell red now, some pockets remaining Democratic.

In the future I hope there's some effort at recovery and progress for Appalach but it won't be easy god knows. TC.

Sooooo many great songs through the years.
"Sam Stone" always hit me the hardest, I think. I knew so many Vietnam Veterans that came back from that "conflict" carrying the weight of addiction. 😢
I saw John in person several times. Once, in a place called "Red Creek" in Rochester, NY. It was a very small place, maybe held 200 people, at most. We had the table right in front of the stage (the "stage" being a riser maybe 1 foot off the ground) and we got to talk to John quite a bit before and after the show. He was such a down-to-earth guy.
He left us much too soon. Damned COVID-19! 😡
